The 2020 Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation Faculty Graduation Project Public Defense Meeting of the School of Mechatronics Engineering was Successfully Held

On June 5, after careful preparation, the 2020 mechanical design, manufacturing and automation major graduation project public defense meeting was successfully held. Based on the Dingtalk conference platform, 9 graduates participated in the public defense and 71 students attended the meeting. The meeting was presided over by Mr. Yu Hechun, director of the Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation Faculty. Vice deans Shang Huichao and Qiao Xuetao, as well as Liu Xiaoyu, an out of school expert and general manager of Zhengzhou F. MAN Intelligent Equipment Technology Co., Ltd., and 12 professional teachers from the faculty attended the defense meeting. Xue Dongmei, head of the practice section of the academic affairs office, attended the meeting.

Defense scene

This meeting is during the period of prevention and control of the COVID-19. The tutor of graduation project guided the students to complete the opening, scheme argumentation, translation, mid-term examination, writing of graduation thesis specification and drawing of two-dimensional engineering drawings. The graduation thesis has passed the requirements of repetition rate retrieval in CNKI system.

In order to ensure the smooth progress of this online defense, teacher Yu organized the defense team to hold a meeting to discuss the defense process. After the final discussion, it was decided to use the remote video technology of the Dingtalk conference platform for this defense, and recorded the whole process, and kept the relevant information of the defense. Three days before the defense, all teachers and students participating in the defense were given application guidance on Dingtalk conference platform, enterprise Wechat conference platform and Tencent conference platform, and the defense process was simulated to provide emergency preparation and response plan.

After careful preparation, the nine students who participated in the public defense elaborated the engineering background and significance, theoretical scheme selection, research methods and key technologies in the form of three-dimensional model, simulation animation and PPT. Each student's defense time should be controlled within 20-25 minutes, students' PPT report and drawing display was 10-15 minutes, and judges' questions was 5-10 minutes.

The defense Secretary operated the computer to control the switching of the defense personnel, and completed the defense record work. After each student's presentation, the judges asked questions, and the students answered the questions. The judges should follow the "Graduation design (Thesis) quality evaluation index system of Zhongyuan University of Technology” to filled in the scoring form , and filled in the reply opinions.

In the defense, the students were able to use their professional knowledge to answer the questions raised by the teachers of the defense judges. The answers were concise and accurate. Although there were still deficiencies, they were fully affirmed by the teachers. Experts outside the school put forward relevant questions for the contents of the graduation design instruction, and inspected the students' familiarity with the graduation design and their mastery of professional knowledge. The students showed good professional quality. The teachers of the defense judges listen to the statements of the students with a serious and rigorous attitude, and put forward suggestions for the revision of the contents of the students' defense, and gave corresponding guidance.
